Steps for Applying Master Pages in InDesign

InDesign offers you one master page by default. But if you want to create more master pages, then you just need to follow the following steps:

  • Create a new document file. You will notice 'A' master page has already been created by default with page numbers.
  • Select the Pages menu from the panel and then go to the option 'New Master'.
  • Now, name the master page as per your choice.
  • You can also create your new master page based on the default master page (in this case, A).

The new master page will denote A on its top, which indicates that it is based on the default master page A.

To apply the master page to all the pages of the document, go to the Pages Panel and then select 'Apply master pages'. You can also choose specific pages to which you want the master page to be applied.

While setting the master page, keep in mind that the changes on the master page cannot be edited or selected on other pages. You have to perform those changes on the master page only.
